Leader of The Greens for more than 20 years, Bob Brown subscribes to the belief that optimism is a key ingredient for any successful human endeavour. ‘Pessimism knocks you out, optimism makes you active,’ he has said. For him, it is a mindset that comes full circle as, after many years of considerable challenges, persistent action and, ultimately, significant triumphs, he is happier now than ever before.
Optimism: Reflections on a Life in Action is Bob’s first book since retiring from politics. In delivering the opening address for the 2015 Perth Writers Festival, he shares insights from both his public and private life, tackles an issue, or two, of the day, and outlines his journey to a simple philosophy for happiness.
