“The Hodgman Government should raid neither the public purse nor the public coastline to facilitate woodchips exports,” Bob Brown said today.
The appointment of Evan Rolley, who oversaw hundreds of millions of taxpayers dollars siphoned into logging native forests in his Forestry Tasmania days, to get the logging industry out of a hole of its own making, will cost a packet. He will have every community in southern Tasmania on tenterhooks, Brown said.
Last night, Forest Industries Association of Tasmania (FIAT) labelled the mess a ‘market failure’ and called for the public to fund a solution.
“This is capitalists socialising their costs. The loggers should get no more handouts from Hodgman”, Brown said.
