Community members are taking part in peaceful demonstrations across Hobart in the last days before the Tasmanian election, highlighting the threat of logging, mining and off-road vehicle damage to takayna / Tarkine.
“This morning, banners are in prominent locations in the Hobart CBD, citizens are holding banners over major intersections around the entrances to Hobart and last night banners were held out the front of the People’s Forum at the Hobart Town Hall. While 20 000 leaflets are being delivered to voters in Braddon, Devonport and Hobart with a score card illustrating that Labor and Liberal have said they will not protect one of the last wild places on Earth, failing to ensure the preservation of Australia’s largest temperate rainforest and one of Australia’s richest Aboriginal landscapes,” Bob Brown Foundation Campaign Manager Jenny Weber said.
“Liberal and Labor are failing the environment in Tasmania, in takayna / Tarkine they are committed to destroying globally significant rainforests, wildlife rich ancient forests and national heritage listed Aboriginal cultural landscape,” Jenny Weber said.
