On 30th of June a report on Koala population and habitat in NSW revealed current legislation does not protect the Koala from extinction. In fact, native forest logging, accelerated land clearing, urban development, mining and climate change fuel the demise of the Koala. After the catastrophic summer fires, the situation for Koalas has only worsened.
We are holding a webinar to get an update on the current situation in NSW with a great line-up of speakers including NSW Greens MP Cate Faehrmann, Koala rescuer Kai Wild and long-time North East Forest Alliance forest defender Dailan Pugh.
Hear from the Chair of the NSW parliamentary Inquiry on Koala Habitat Greens MLC Cate Faehrmann who is leading the fight against habitat loss in Parliament and on the streets.
Koala rescuer Kai Wild who raced to Kangaroo Island right after bushfires ravaged this important koala reserve. He rescued more than 70 koalas by climbing high up into the burnt out canopy and carefully taking them in to wildlife refuge. Kai currently resides near Port Macquarie, helping out in that area with Koala care.
Dailan Pugh, long time member of the North East Forest Alliance. Dailan will share his insights into the threat logging poses for koalas on private and public land. He has been campaigning for the establishment of two Koala parks in NSW’s northern rivers region area. Unfortunately large parts of those areas have now also been severely burnt.
The webinar will be hosted by Campaign Manager Jenny Weber and our Sydney campaigns organiser Doro Babeck
Our Sydney Campaigns Organiser has an action plan for how you can be involved in ramping up the pressure on Premier Berejiklian to protect Koalas and their native forest habitat.
