Join us in takayna / Tarkine for a Big Canopy Campout. The ancient forests of Tasmania's Tarkine are threatened by logging and mining. Here is a great way to get into the canopy of the Tarkine forests and join our campaign to defend and protect these globally unique ecosystems.
On Saturday 12th October 2019, we will be in takayna / Tarkine, opening the event for the global action with our Tassie sunrise the first of the official Canopy Campouts. Participants will be camping out in Earth's diverse forests as we chase the sunset, night and dawn across the world. Climbers in spectacular jungles, frozen Eucalypts and massive American Redwoods will join together with enthusiasts in tree-tents, hammocks and pods in all forested corners of the earth to explore, inspire and protect. We will all be sharing stories, images and video via social media as we experience the wonder and beauty of our incredible forests in takayna / Tarkine. As the sun rises over the mountain forests of Maui we will have travelled the Earth and taken part in the planet's most spectacular forest adventure.
We are looking for volunteers to help in the days leading up to Saturday 12th October. There will be lots of setup pre-event. Even if you’re not a climber, never climbed or never considered climbing, or if you’ve spent more time in trees or on the end of a rope than on the ground, we’d love to have you all. There will be workshops learning the basics for all ages and all abilities during the event. All are welcome!
If you are able to assist in any way during the leadup we have lots to do including:
- Banner painting in the Hobart BBF campaign centre
- Laminating and printing
- Hobart collection of equipment and supplies
