Gautam Adani is pushing Australia’s governments to open up his massive coal lode in the Galilee basin in this age of climate emergency.
This Saturday 15 June we are rallying in Canberra at the Indian High Commission. In Sydney you can also join a peaceful demonstration in solidarity.
Our peaceful demonstrations will highlight the Adani companies’ appalling record of environmental destruction and corruption overseas. Adani should be stopped from destroying the Gond forests of India and the woodlands of the Galilee Basin in Australia.
India’s Ministry for Environment has given environmental clearance for open cast coal mining inside the dense Hasdeo Arand forests.
The Parsa coal mine will be operated by Rajasthan Collieries Limited (RCL). Adani has 74% ownership of Rajasthan Collieries.
Chhattisgarh state’s Hasdeo Arand region is home to forest-dwelling Adivasi (indigenous) communities, such as the Gonds, who are deeply dependent on forest produce, and agriculture. The region has dense sal forests, rare plants, perennial water sources, and wildlife species including elephants, sloth bears and leopards.
