Public Submission Deadline 15 November 2014
A woodchip export development expected to transport 500,000 tonnes of woodchips each year, described as a Bulk Loading Facility, is proposed for Waterloo Bay on the Huon River.
Four massive barges would be permanently moored in Waterloo Bay, each being loaded with 10,000 tonnes of woodchip. A bulk woodchip carrier is to moor at Dover or Southport and the uncovered barges make their way down river where a total load of 40,000 tonnes would be transhipped to the woodchip carrier in the river.
This not only threatens the outstanding southern forests but also has potential impacts on the waterway, on other businesses, and on residents. Next to Surges Bay and opposite Petcheys Bay it will be visible up and down the Huon. Noise, road use by heavy truck traffic, safety, loss of public open space, and conflict with a clean and green developmental direction are all at issue.
Dover: Wednesday 5th November, Old School Gallery, 7-8.30pm
Cygnet: Thursday 6th November, Supper Room, 7-8.30 pm
