Plans to invade Tasmania’s World Heritage wilderness with tourism developments are stupid, greedy and contrary to world’s best practice, Environmentalist Bob Brown said today.
“The one certainty of the Liberal government plan is that it will degrade the world-renowned quality of Tasmania’s wilderness”, said Brown, who is visiting the Daintree World Heritage Area in North Queensland today.
“There are many magnificent options for small high-end tourism resorts in Tasmania, including the Liffey Valley, West Coast Range, Maydena and on private land at Recherche Bay”, Brown said.
"The Liberal party can not be trusted; they are currently embarrassing Australia internationally by applying to withdraw 74,000 ha of Tasmania's World Heritage area, on spurious grounds, to allow for logging.”
Bob Brown is unavailable for comment as he is out of range in the Daintree.
