Abbott's Forest Plan Opposed by Most Australians

A Galaxy Poll of 1,050 taken this week shows that seven out of eight Australians oppose the Abbott government's plan to open 74,000 hectares of Tasmania's World Heritage forests to logging.

The poll was commissioned by the Bob Brown Foundation for the environment.

Amongst young Australians, those aged 18 to 24, there was only 3 percent support for the Coalition proposal.

If the 'undecided' component (19%) is eliminated, those polled were in favour of retaining the World Heritage protection of the Tasmanian forests by 87.5% to just 12.5%, a ratio of seven to one.
