What a weekend in Tasmania's wild, ancient and threatened takayna / Tarkine. Here are the survey leaders, participants and organisers from our third annual BioBlitz.

We focused on finding and identifying as many species as possible over a short period of time in the many varied ecosystems in the Tarkine, from the rainforests and rivers to the coast and plains.

On the first day of the Tarkine BioBlitz, ‘lobster man’ Todd Walsh found the second-biggest Tasmanian Giant Freshwater Crayfish he’s ever caught.

 

Bioblitzers were out after dusk luring moths at Dempster Plains with Dr Peter McQuillan, entomologist and Senior Lecture at the University of Tasmania. 

Channing Hughes joins us from The Carnivore Conservancy, who's mission is to support the conservation of threatened carnivore species through scientific research, education and ecotourism.

Steve Pearce finds a truely unique specimen in the Tarkine, a perfectly bonsaied Nothofagus Cunninghammii (Myrtle), living as an epiphyte within the branch of another tree.
