Tarkine Wilderness Lodge base camp - Arwen Dyer

Arwen-Dyer-TiM-2017-Tarkine-Wilderness-Lodge-_2-small.jpg

My recent trips to the Tarkine/takayna for Tarkine in Motion have been to the wild coastline, so the rainforest here, with its tree ferns, moss covered logs, 800-year-old myrtle trees and massive eucalypts is a real contrast.

Yet the beauty, remoteness and preciousness of this place make it equally breathtaking. The vulnerability of rainforest strikes me deeply: how such ancient ecosystems can be destroyed by the approval of a new mining lease or the fall of yet another tree.

At this moment the forest is bone dry. I wonder what becomes of rainforest deprived of rain, whether our changing climate is having an impact on rainfall here… I note that some Tarkine rainforest was lost to bushfire only last year, a clear result of climate change.

I also ponder whether these trees will still stand when our children are adults. Will they also be fighting to protect the takayna? Or will they be marvelling at the magnificence of a new World Heritage Area? We can hope for the latter and continue our fight.

The joy of experiencing the tarkine

4-small.jpg

The joy of experiencing the tarkine is not knowing whats around the corner or under the water. Planning anything is just silly, random spontaneous acts provide the most divine experiences. The last two days are no exception.

To be back in this space is an honor, to be part of the tarkine in motion is a privilege and one that we are so grateful for.
Its wonderful to visit old friends and ever so exciting to explore new spaces.

Shells (Shelley Cusiter)

I run, I run as far as the wind

I run into your wilderness

Embraced by your silence

I run, I run from my busy life

I run from my busy mind

Into my wild self

My running feet have taken me

Deep into these myrtle trees

Till only bird songs speak to me

Now cloaked in mossy green

Dancing in the sunlight

Time becomes the gentle rivers reflection of the sky

Fungi Photos from Corinna

Chris Wilson has sent in these great photos from Tarkine in Motion near Corinna.

IMG_4571.jpg

The world of the fungi photographer is secret and surprising because you have to look really closely.

Chris Wilson walks four times slower than the usual bush walker on a mission to their destination. After sustaining an injury Chris has been forced to walk slow, which has allowed her to see things she may have other wised missed.

Searching for fungi leads to these kind of beautiful delights.
