INGRID BETANCOURT FREED AT LAST - Greens Senator kidnapped in Febuary 2002 - now free

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown is delighted by the release of his friend and Colombian political captive Ingrid Betancourt, who has been held captive by FARC guerrillas in the Colombian jungle for the past six years.

Brown, a friend of Ms Betancourt’s, says that she has at times been chained by the leg to trees and otherwise cruelly treated in her six years of imprisonment.

Watch Ingrid's 2001 address to the Global Greens conference in Canberra.

TIBET -

For more than 50years, China's Red Army has occupied Tibet, leading to more than 1 million deaths and depriving Tibetans of human, civil, political and cultural rights.

Tibet remains the world’s biggest military colony. Both the Rudd Government and Nelson Opposition support this enslavement, rather than the Tibetans’ right to self-determination.

GUNNS PULP MILL - an ecological disaster

The big parties have behaved shamefully by giving approval of this polluting mill and its destructive impact on forests and the marine environment. They've fallen far short of the mark we should expect of governments on the environment.

WILD WIELANGTA -

In a 2 - 1 split judgement (Crennan, Hayne - Kirby) the High Court rejected Greens Leader Bob Brown's application to appeal against the full Federal Court's decision which overruled Justice Marshall's 2006 ban on logging in Tasmania's Wielangta Forest. The campaign to protect these creatures and their forest home continues.

TASMANIA'S ANCIENT FORESTS - Under threat from woodchipping

Tasmania's old growth forests still face the chainsaws and bulldozers. With both the Liberal and Labor party supporting the destruction of Tasmania's forests, The Greens are the only party standing up for Tasmania's wildlife and their forest home.

Help save Tassie's forests from the woodchipper.

GUNNS 20 - Mulit-million dollar lawsuit against conservationists

The Gunns 20 case is a disaster for the company and continues the attack on the forests and free speech. Even if it has some small wins against the remaining 15 defendants, Gunns would gain little or nothing. It would be a pyrrhic victory and considering the impact on the company’s reputation, a clear loss for shareholders.
